Baidu remains China’s dominant search engine, holding around 56-70% market share depending on device, in a digital advertising ecosystem projected to exceed hundreds of billions USD annually; this makes it an essential gateway for international brands targeting over a billion internet users.
What truly energizes me is how Baidu PPC levels the playing field for foreign businesses. While setup involves hurdles—like business verification, initial deposits around RMB 7,000, and mandatory Chinese-language elements—recent policies have made it more accessible without requiring a local entity. Partnering with authorized agencies simplifies compliance, localization, and optimization; we’ve helped countless global clients achieve lower CPCs (often 25-40% cheaper than comparable platforms) and higher trust, as Chinese consumers view Baidu ads as reliable due to strict regulations.
Premiumization and precision are key trends: mobile-first campaigns dominate, with AI-driven targeting, voice search, and brand zones delivering personalized experiences that rival global standards. Sustainability in marketing resonates too; ethical, transparent campaigns build long-term loyalty in a market valuing authenticity.
Innovation abounds—from programmatic buying to integrated e-commerce flows—expanding reach via Baidu’s vast ecosystem, including maps, forums, and partners. For foreign companies, this means tapping into high-intent searches from affluent urban consumers eager for international quality.
Challenges remain: regulatory approvals, cultural localization, fierce competition, and landing page requirements (ideally ICP-licensed for speed) demand expertise. But these barriers create advantages; thoughtful, compliant strategies differentiate your brand and drive superior ROI.
I’m proud to lead a team empowering foreign businesses to thrive on Baidu—one targeted click at a time—unlocking China’s immense potential.
Have you run Baidu PPC campaigns before, and what challenges did you face? What industry is your company in, and how do you see Baidu fitting into your China strategy?

Is that still effective for Brands or Business in 2024?

As Baidu dominates the Chinese search engine market, understanding and leveraging Baidu PPC can be a game-changer for B2B looking to penetrate or expand within this vibrant market. Given Baidu’s nuanced algorithm and the distinct behavior of Chinese internet users, navigating Baidu PPC campaigns requires a blend of strategic insight and local know-how.

You’re right, but Baidu is not an important source of information for Chinese people today. Maybe search engines are still needed for B2B knowledge and information access, but for a business like studying abroad that caters to a general audience, douyin (the Chinese version of tiktok) or Xiaohongshu are probably the more popular channels for information nowadays. I am Chinese and work for a Chinese agency. I am interested in your business and would like to try more possibilities of cooperation. Maybe we don’t need to start paying right away, we can discuss our views on the Chinese market.

I have just started my counselling business with focus on young Chinese, who want to study abroad in particular in Germany.
Veda Consulting is located in Germany without any branches in China. The website “veda-consulting.com” is hosted in Hongkong and already registered on Baidu.
I think to start the business successfully and to reach many interested clients a good website visibility is essential. Therefore it would be worthwhile to have on the one hand a reasonable SEO strategy and on the other a paid advertisement campaign to make sure an instant website traffic. Perhaps P4P could be a reasonable approach for starting.
Looking forward to your feedback and proposals.
Best regards
Thomas

This is an article about Baidu PPC(pay per click)
For SEO, our price depends on the number of keywords and the competition on keywords.
Difficult to tell you a fixed price, specially if you want results.
